The Mission of the Boys and Girls Club is to Help boys and girls of all backgrounds, especially those who need us most, build confidence, develop character, and acquire the skills needed to become productive, civic-minded, responsible adults. Sanaa has been a member of the Boys and Girls Club Germantown Branch (a location within the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington) since she was 5 years old and would like to be able to encourage its members to become “A Diver Like Me.”
Donations will be split among the 17 Greater Washington locations in hopes of inspiring youth to become “A Diver Like Me”!
Meet Sanaa, a young Black girl who is passionate about honing her diving skills.
How does she do it?
With a dedicated focus, along with tons of practice and teamwork!
Sanaa thinks that diving could become a favorite sport for many young people of color. She hopes that sharing her amazing experiences will help spread the word.

There’s a NEED for diversity among recognized divers, and this author is getting the message out to the young, Black, and even the world.

Her courage extends beyond facing the high dive to include trying something new and being the only one of her friends on the team. The illustrations are wonderful additions to the story and help convey the joy that Sanaa and her family feel when she is in the water. As a teacher, I am so excited to add this book to my classroom library. I am sure it will spark great conversations about courage, diversity, and exploring student passions. A Diver Like Me is a must read.

This is a heart warming story about one girl’s journey finding her passion and also discovering that she is different from her peers. It’s an inspiration to see a young author be aware and able to put her experience into words. Others can relate to and learn from her experience. Anyone who has ever felt different in any way can identify with this story and should check out this book!
